Easy Eating With Elevated Soup!
I have mentioned in other posts that I am positively evangelical about homemade soup, and I thought I'd expand on that a little in this post. Soup can be a powerhouse of nutrition as homemade soup makes use of fresh, seasonal ingredients harvested at their best. It can be made in big batches then preserved by freezing, meaning hearty soup with delicious ingredients whenever you wish. I batch cook soup for clients regularly as it's extremely popular for light meals. In later life some people have health issues that cause difficulties with eating and swallowing, and soup can be a very easy to eat option to ensure that they can still enjoy delicious flavours whilst getting excellent nutrition. Soup is also a great option for those with teeth or gum issues.
In my recipe section you'll find my favourite soup recipe that makes use of cheap and cheerful root veg. I love that's it's extremely budget friendly, rustic and tasty and I love to elevate my soups on serving with extra tasty and nourishing toppings!
Pumpkin Seeds
I love to sprinkle pumpkin seeds on any soup for a gentle crunch and the extra benefits they offer namely; healthy fats, magnesium, zinc, iron, antioxidants, fibre and protein. These nutrients can contribute to supporting heart health, improving immune function and sleep quality.
Grated Cheese
Grated cheese sprinkled on vegetable or tomato soup is not only a delicious way of layering flavour, but it is also packed with calcium, protein, vitamins B12, A and K2 and phosphorus. These nutrients can contribute to supporting bones, teeth and muscle repair.
Croutons
Sourdough bread is easier to digest due to it's long fermentation process breaking down gluten. It also acts as a natural probiotic to support gut health. Drizzle cubes of sourdough with good olive oil and either air fry or roast for healthy croutons to sprinkle on your soup of choice. As they sink they soften so they are easy on teeth and gums too.
Time to get out that soup pan hey?
