Our Top 5 Mindful Mood Boosters
As we age it becomes increasingly important to focus on our mental health and well-being. Social isolation, loneliness, and a general feeling of detachment, all contribute to older people dealing with low mood on occasion. Here are my top 5 mood boosters to help you live well.
1) Gentle walking: If it's safe for you to do so, there is nothing like a fresh air walk to boost circulation and release endorphins. Walking is fabulous for relieving stress and pain, and it is also a gentle cardiovascular workout.
2) Chair exercises: If you are unable to walk outside due to mobility constraints, try simple stretches such as gently circling your ankles, or lifting your legs and then setting them down gently. Even gentle stretches and movements are highly beneficial for joint health and circulation.
3) Connect with friends or family: Call a family member or friend and catch up on their news. Simply having a chat with someone who understands and supports you can be both uplifting and comforting.
4) Embrace your hobbies: Do you enjoy crossword puzzles or cards, jigsaws or making scrapbooks? Whatever your hobby is, it's nice to take some time to indulge in it for an instant mood boost, and a sense of achievement.
5) Nourish yourself: Nibble on mood-boosting snacks such as fresh berries, chocolate dates, or a simple piece of dark chocolate as tasty treats. Make sure to sip plenty of water throughout the day to aid cognition, digestion and hydration.
I previously shared a blog on how to make my chocolate coated peanut butter date bites, they are a delicious, powerhouse healthy treat, and the medjool dates taste just like caramel!
