We Love Potatoes!
The humble spud is one of the most cost-effective staples in the UK, often available for under £1 per kg. Potatoes are extremely versatile and filling, making them the perfect pantry staple all year round.
Our favourite potato uses...
Jacket Potatoes: Microwave, air fry or bake, and then top with cheap pantry staples like cheese, beans, or tuna. You can also elevate your jackets with toppings like chilli or ragu.
Creamy Mash: A tasty and inexpensive side dish that can also be turned into a main dish by combining with chopped ham and grated cheese, and then baking to make ham, cheese and potato bake.
Potato Pie: Slice and par boil some potatoes, cool them and then layer them in a shortcrust pastry case with sauteed bacon, grated cheddar and creme fraiche. Pop on a shortcrust pastry lid and bake until golden for the most delicious pie!
Homemade Chips: Peel, cut, and roast for a much cheaper and healthier alternative to takeout.
Leek & Potato Soup: A real favourite of ours as it's so tasty and filling, a true low-cost option using potatoes, vegetable stock, sea salt, pepper and fresh leeks, blended with a dash of single cream for decadence!
So let's celebrate this most humble of ingredients!
